Rowan Owen Yoga Instructor joins Personal Space team

This is Rowan Owen – Yoga instructor, who is now available at Personal Space offering one to one Vinyasa Yoga lessons on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. Yes, she is upside down, but normally she goes about upright!

Here is Rowan’s answer to the question What is Vinyasa Yoga?

‘To place in a special way’, simply by linking movement with breath. Be it sitting down on our mat, a chair or going through a full-on flow – we are finding stillness and control,  therefore linking mind to body to breath.
I love Vinyasa because every time you step or sit on your mat your breath guides you and your body flows. My classes are based around the elements – Earth, Water, Fire and Air. Each flow designed for specific needs and different parts of the body or Chakras. A 1-2-1 class is designed around you for your own personal needs and goals.
Vinyasa originated from Hatha yoga and is the most popular form of yoga today and because it is breath initiated, the link from one posture to the next is just as important as the posture itself.
If you are someone who is right now thinking “I can’t even move from Downward facing Dog to a low lunge” take a step back – we learn and progress from sitting postures, even chair postures. I have seen nothing better than my dear old nan stuck in her chair working every inch of her tired body and feeling, happier, energised and clear headed, and at the ripe old age of 85! She can now stand up against the wall in Down Dog.
Please email us at personalspace@gmail.com if you would like to  find out more about Rowan’s one to one yoga.

Personal Space Decathlon Winners 2016

This year in our decathlon event we had two age categories for females and males; 45 and under or 46 and over.

Last year’s winners Kath Prowting and Dan Bekhradnia triumphed again, both are in the younger age group categories. In the older age groups Stuart and his wife Lisa Dollery were the fastest competitors, but as they are ‘staff’ we discounted them, making the winner in the female 46 and over category Stephanie Chadwick, and with no other ‘older’ men taking part we can allow Stuart to become the winner in the male 46 and over category.

Well done to everybody who went through the gruelling but satisfying event.

We think next year, as well as offering the decathlon again for the diehards, we hope to run another challenge to get more people involved, so if you have any ideas they would be most welcome.

Personal Space Decathlon Winners

Behold the almighty winners of our annual Personal Space Decathlon event!

Pictured are Dan Bekhradnia and Katherine Prowting, the sweaty and proud winners of the male and female categories of this year’s gruelling ten exercises event against the clock. Exercises included in the challenge are walking at a 10% incline, cycling, stair climbing, cross trainer, press ups and step ups with weights. All ten exercises are completed with good form and at a safe but swift pace.

This is Dan’s first attempt at the decathlon, and Katherine has now been champion for the past three years.

Well done to you both, you are awesome!

Good luck in defending your titles next year.

Personal Space celebrates 15 years!

Personal space one-to-one exercise studio in Redland began helping local people to reach their health and fitness goals in May 2000, at that time becoming the first personal training studio in Bristol, and now offering Pilates, as well as more recently a physiotherapy service.

The studio is spacious, however there is never more than two people using it at any one time, preserving the feeling of privacy and peace. Founders Stuart Dollery and Lisa Harvey are proud of the integrity of their team of trainers and therapist, all of whom have had many years of experience in their field.

15 individual sessions to be won in draw!

To help mark their 15th anniversary Personal Space are giving away 6 physiotherapy or massage sessions with Valerie, 3 personal training sessions each with Stuart and Lisa Harvey, and 3 Pilates sessions with Lisa Dollery. To be entered into the draws to win these fantastic prizes all you need to do is visit the ‘contact us’ page giving your details and stating which sessions you are interested in winning. Also, please ‘like’ their Facebook page to benefit from their regular health and fitness posts on current topics. The draws will take place on May 20th.
