If you are considering new challenges for 2016 I would encourage you to consider your own personal barriers, that might impede your progress.
What do I mean by barriers?
Anything that might get in the way of you achieving your goal.
I have one client who wants to pick up their running over next year. One such barrier was not having the right clothes to deal with the elements. Being comfortable running in the inclement weather was a concern, so they are now looking for layered, breathable, wind proof clothing. Another might be having the correct footwear for the terrain.
A barrier can be big or seemingly inconsequential, but if it stops you from doing even one session & getting you out of a rhythm, then it’s significant!
If you are planning on better eating then I would say one of the biggest barriers is having the right food for that moment.
If you do not have the right food or haven’t prepared in advance, then it comes down to making choices on the hoof & that definitely tests the willpower.
One client is going on a lot of parties at various venues around Bristol. We went through menus in advance together, so that they already knew what the better choices were.
We also talked through what the better choices are when things don’t go to plan.
Forewarned is forearmed.
Thinking through, planning & preparing ahead is a key strategy to ensure you feel successful towards your goal. Ensure you think ahead, strategise & minimise your barriers!
